About a dozen members of the Travel Team fly in to Guatemala early, to make sure that everything is prepared for the week ahead. 2019 is the first year ever that the over 8,000 pounds of shipped cargo made it there in advance!

This year’s travel team is comprised of a total 71 people from across the United States and Canada. The majority of the Travel Team arrives on this day, converging at the airport in Guatemala City. From there, the buses are loaded and the team heads to Antigua.

With just an evening to get settled, the team comes ready to hit the ground running. Over the course of four days, our team serves over 40 patients and replaces a total of 70 joints.

As the last patients of the week enter physical therapy, the team works on getting the remaining supplies organized and stored.

At the end of a busy week, everyone gets a little time to rest, relax, and enjoy Antigua’s offerings. Some scale volcanoes, while others check out a coffee plantation or simply some R&R.

The team says hasta luego, and heads back to Pittsburgh.
