SAN PEDRO SULA, HONDURAS
The mission in San Pedro Sula, Honduras in 2015 created new beginnings for patients in need, their families, neighbors and communities.

Founded by the Spanish in 1536, San Pedro Sula is located in the northwest corner of Honduras, in the Sula Valley region. During the month of June, the city hosts its annual Feria Juniana festival dedicated to its patron saint, complete with fireworks, cultural events, live music and carnival processions. Despite rare wildlife and mountain vistas, Honduras is one of the poorest countries in the western hemisphere, with over 60% of its population living in poverty. In 1998, Hurricane Mitch devastated the country leaving 7,000 dead, destroying 70% of its crops and 80% of its transportation infrastructures.
While San Pedro Sula is often associated with violence, the Operation Walk Pittsburgh team has always been warmly welcomed into the community. The relationships that have been made during numerous trips are still strong today and we count the residents of San Pedro Sula as our lifelong friends.
