Did You Know?

The capital of Cuba, Havana, is home to more than 2 million residents, making this energetic and vibrant city the largest in Cuba and the Caribbean. In addition to impromptu baseball games throughout the city’s neighborhoods, visitors can still see the colorful Detroit-made automobiles imported into the country before Fidel Castro enacted his ban on American car imports. Cuba has long been known for producing quality doctors and providing excellent primary care and basic medical services.  However, most Cuban doctors do not have the specialty training that US doctors do who perform knee and hip replacements

Mission By The Numbers

In just one week, the Operation Walk Pittsburgh team provided life-changing services to the people and communities of Havana Cuba at no cost.

Take a look at the impact of this trip:

22 pallets of equipment

8,000 pounds of implants, instruments, medications, crutches, walkers and other medical supply

61 surgeries

47 patients

40 knee replacements

21 hip replacements
