Welcome to Operation Walk Pittsburgh, a branch of a global health campaign bringing hope to many in need of orthopaedic surgery.
Operation Walk is a private, non-profit, volunteer medical service organization that provides free hip and knee replacements for patients in developing countries (and in the US) that have no access to life-improving care for arthritis.
Founded in 1994 by Los Angeles orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Lawrence Dorr, Operation Walk has visited over 12 different countries and operated on thousands of patients. The Operation Walk organization includes nine teams in the US and one in Canada.
Operation Walk Pittsburgh, headed by Dr. Tony DiGioia, was started in 2008 and has since completed three successful trips to Central America and two in Pittsburgh, providing life changing surgeries to those in need both home and away. While on location, the Operation Walk team educates in-country orthopaedic surgeons, nurses, physical therapists and other health care profes- sionals on the most advanced treatments and surgical techniques. This is done in conjunction with surgeries to help create a lasting contribution to patients and their care in developing countries.
We understand how walking pain free can change lives and want you to help us put our best foot forward to grant others this wish. Join us as we Walk it Forward, taking steps today to grant others in Pittsburgh and around the world one of life’s most basic freedoms...granting the wish to walk.
